Just when you thought it had peaked, this week, legal AI upped the stakes even more. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei was set to meet President Trump after months of tension over AI regulation, national security, and the limits of responsible deployment. Details of the meeting are yet to be released. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed AI safety experts to advise on frontier-model oversight, including proposals around independent verification and an emergency “kill switch.” And Abu Dhabi launched the first phase of its Judicial AI Platform, bringing AI into criminal case workflows under human supervision
The legal market is showing no signs of slowing down. Professor Richard Susskind is challenging the profession’s comfort blanket, arguing inter alia that human judgement alone will not protect lawyers from AI as systems become more capable. At the same time, Intelligent AF has launched an AI-fluency ecosystem for the legal industry, while Noxtua has raised more than €100 million in a major European legal AI bet led by publishing house C.H.BECK.

➡️ Abu Dhabi Rolls Out First Phase Of Judicial AI Platform | Abu Dhabi has launched the first phase of its Judicial AI Platform, developed by the Department of Government Enablement and the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The system introduces judicial assistants for public prosecution and criminal courts, analysing cases, generating recommendations, and preparing draft judgments with references to legislation and precedents. Final decisions remain with judicial officials. The rollout forms part of an 18-month programme and Abu Dhabi's $3.54 billion Digital Strategy targeting a fully AI-native government by 2027.

➡️ Amodei And Trump To Meet Amid Tensions Over AI Regulation | Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei was set to dine one-on-one with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday, marking their first solo meeting after months of open conflict. The dinner follows a federal appeals court upholding the Pentagon's classification of Anthropic as a "supply chain risk" after the startup refused to allow its tools for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance. Trump reiterated opposition to slowing AI development, arguing new regulations would let China overtake the US.

➡️ Susskind Argues Judgement Will Not Save Lawyers From AI | In the 30th anniversary edition of The Future of Law, legal futurist Professor Richard Susskind argues that human judgement will not shield lawyers from AI. He predicts AGI will make generative AI reliable for most legal tasks by the early 2030s, often without human supervision. Susskind says machines already handle uncertainty by drawing on vast training data, undermining the "judgement objection." Firms that thrive will be those that build AI systems, not those providing advice.

➡️ Intelligent AF Launches AI-Fluency Platform For Legal, Acquires TechnoCat | Intelligent AF has launched as an AI-fluency ecosystem for the legal industry, bringing education, community, events, career services, media, and investment into one membership. Backed by Greenwood Drive Investments, the company is chaired by Mike Dalewitz, with legal AI executive Cat Casey as president. It launches with five connected businesses: Informed AF, Connected AF, Employed AF, Funded AF, and Amplified AF. Intelligent AF has also acquired Casey's TechnoCat, which will form the foundation of Amplified AF.

➡️ California Names Experts To Advance AI "Kill Switch" Oversight | Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed AI safety experts to advise on his recent executive order, which accelerates independent oversight of frontier AI companies and advances the creation of an emergency "kill switch." Advisers include Jason Goldman, Gillian Hadfield, Alondra Nelson, and Rob Reich. Proposals under consideration include embedding independent verifiers onsite in frontier AI labs and updating critical safety incident definitions to include loss-of-control events. The move builds on California's SB 53, SB 813, and AB 1405.

➡️ C.H.BECK Invests €100M+ In Noxtua As MANZ Joins Series C | Noxtua, Europe's Legal AI, has closed a Series C round of more than €100 million. German legal publisher C.H.BECK becomes majority shareholder in its largest ever investment, with Austria's MANZ joining as a new investor. Founded in Berlin in 2017, Noxtua now serves over 30,000 users across six European offices. CMS and Dentons remain key anchor clients as some earlier investors step back.

Chamelio’s $26M Series A: Alex Zilberman on Building What Comes After CLM
Chamelio, the AI-native platform for in-house legal teams, has raised a $26 million Series A led by Entrée Capital, with existing investors Work-Bench and Emerge Ventures back on the cap table alongside new participation from Bright Pixel Capital. The company announced the round on 22 September from New York, five months after closing its seed. In that window, according to Chamelio, annual recurring revenue has grown fourfold. The customer list now runs to more than a hundred organisations, including Wiz, monday. com, Socure, AppsFlyer and Wonderful. ai.
The thesis Chamelio is pitching to its investors and to those customers is that the contract lifecycle management software in-house legal teams have been buying for the last decade was designed to store contracts, not to do work, and that a new category is now needed to replace it.
